posticon Hike recommendations?

We're going to be in the area soon and the kids are hiking enthusiasts. I was just wondering what everyone's favorite trails are. Kid-friendly is great, but these girls are pretty tough! Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

It's steep, but the Bald Peak trailhead is easy to find, located directly on the townline between M'Boro and T'Boro. (Shown on some maps as "Bald Knob"—which I think is the correct name)

Parking is ample. If the day is sunny, it's likely to be hot. "Views" all the way up.

Castle-in-the-Clouds has many easy trails.

Chocorua is a delightful, but long trail—you must start before 9-AM, as it's too easy to return stumbling around in the dark!

(Ask me how I know this!)

You can "opt-out" to some shorter trails in the area during your hike. To Chocorua's peak, the last 300-feet are "a hike". emoticon (There's a sort-of "natural-staircase" off to the right side as you encounter it).

A great view north can be found after a three-hour hike up Mt. Shaw. (Trailhead and limited parking at the Melvin River). Half-way up, the trail turns very rocky. At that point, a family of five popped out of the woods, and asked where the Castle-in-the-Clouds was!

('Only "off" by about two miles...!)

Pick your day to hike Mt. Major:

The girls would like Abenaki Tower if you haven't done it. We had guests last week who hiked a trail on the Kanc and Red Hill. You go up Bean Road in Center Harbor to get to the Red Hill Trail. And there is Mt Major in Alton.

Abanaki Tower is a great idea, very short (1/4 mile) then up the tower, worth doing! Balk Peak trail is very difficult (short, less than a mile one way but very steep). Tumbledown Dick at the end of Pleasant Valley Road is a good distance (1 1/2 round trip) with varied terrain. Devils Den with the cave. . . do a search for short hikes and there are several around here.
