posticon What's with Copplecrown Mountain?

[McDude's postcard reminded me of how the mountain appeared when I first saw Copplecrown, but thought a new thread was in order.]

Driving down South Main Street yesterday, I saw what appears to be a large number of clearings on "our" side of Copplecrown. (With respect to "ridge-development", I would call them "scars")

While most of the clearings had some structure on them (houses), one was particlarly large, as seen without the leaves on the trees. Will it be a new summer camp?

During the winter, Friday After lunch at Carpenter School 4th,5th &6th graders went to Copple Crown for ski lessons. If not, you stayed behind and did Arts and Crafts. Anyone else remember?

When I was at Carpenter, we went to Moose Mt in Brookfield. Put all the skis in the back of an old pickup and took bus up there. They had a chair and 2 tbars

At copple crown, I remember skiing down the road during a snowstorm. They should have put a chair to the top instead of the tbar 3/4 way up.

Smaller than Abenaki? I never knew/heard about Copplecrown and skiing. Abenaki was neat: It had "moguls". (But back then we called them "bumps").

But before the leaves hide the "scar" (which is too small to be either golf course or ski trail), please take a look when you're heading south on South Main, by the Pleasant Valley Road intersection. It's got to be somebody's "McMansion" -- maybe a small farm.

Yes, smaller than Abenaki! Not one bit of steepness to it and not long either.
